SemMaterials offers its patented Butaphalt® Technology for use under license.

Proven in actual production over a period of several years, this process provides the following advantages:

Cost Savings: The utilization of patented wetting and dispersing processes allows building a facility with significantly lower capital costs.

Very High Capacity: The system is designed to process the polymer and the reactants very quickly, and to provide stable, ready-to-ship product within a few hours. For instance, a plant with two product tanks, each 80,000 gallons, could produce approximately 500 tons/day of polymer modified asphalt.

Small Space Requirements: Compared to plants of comparable capacity, the footprint of a plant using the Butaphalt® process is 25 to 40% smaller, which makes it an ideal choice for areas where space is at a premium.

Flexible Design: The plant design incorporates a small wetting tank for adding the polymer and injecting the stabilizing additives. Each of the product tanks can be used independently, allowing the operator to simultaneously produce several different PMA specifications.
